Design Challenge
Companies and individuals often host their web sites with dedicated servers run by specialist hosting firms who have the investment and infrastructure to manage this. However, this gives us the sense that our web sites are somehow 'distant' and not physically part of a company or individual they are supposed to represent. However, as broadband becomes cheaper and faster, and with 'Internet 2' just around the corner, will we need specialist hosting companies or will we host our own web sites with our own personal website servers at home or in the office as part of our digital lifestyles ? The design challenge here was to design a personal website server for the home or small office.
This is the second concept for this project. This time the server would show in detail the global position of a website visitor.
Design Solution
Another object of desire with an intelligent lighting solution though this time the server shows the exact geographic location of a visitor, by glowing a slight neon green colour. The server can at times seem asleep, or very active, with the cities with the most vistors glowing ever more strongly as more visitors surf the site. |
