Design Challenge
Companies and individuals often host their web sites with dedicated servers run by specialist hosting firms who have the investment and infrastructure to manage this. However, this gives us the sense that our web sites are somehow 'distant' and not physically part of a company or individual they are supposed to represent. However, as broadband becomes cheaper and faster, and with 'Internet 2' just around the corner, will we need specialist hosting companies or will we host our own web sites with our own personal website servers at home or in the office as part of our digital lifestyles ? The design challenge here was to design a personal website server for the home or small office.
Design Solution
The following concept has all the technical merits of a server hardware solution, though with an added design twist. It is an object of desire with an intelligent lighting solution which is activated by the number of users who visit the site. Inside the blue globe is an intelligent lighting system which responds to the number of visitors who come to the site, based on their location around the globe. As more visitors come, the more it glows, and offers the owner a none statistical version of events. At 25cm in height the personal website server can be placed at any desirable location.
